Turnrow Farm
Larkin Martin manages Martin Farm in Courtland, Alabama, growing cotton, corn, soybeans, and wheat. She is also Chairman of Servico, a cotton ginning and agricultural services business. She is a 7th-generation farmer and has long emphasized soil conservation, soil health improvement, and other practices that have become known as regenerative. Martin Farm has gone through several of the emerging certification processes, scored well, and been designated as a "Regenerative Farm" by third parties, but continues to look for improvements in that process. Additionally, Martin Farm has recently sold cotton directly to brands, most notably Victoria's Secret, in a novel contracting process that avoids middlemen, and the brand pays the farm directly for the cotton. Off the farm, Mrs. Martin holds or has held several board roles.
She currently serves on the non-profit boards of The American Farmland Trust and The Soil Health Institute. She serves on the commercial boards of Rayonier, a publicly traded Timber REIT, iyris, a start-up addressing global food security challenges, and Chonex, a start-up focused on soil health-improving biological products. Mrs. Martin is a past Director and Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and continues to serve on their Agricultural Advisory Council. She is a past Director and Chairman of The Farm Foundation and The Cotton Foundation and the Cotton Board. She was an Eisenhower Agricultural Fellow in 2012, traveling in Turkey and Kenya to study crop production practices in those different environments and economies. She is married to John Thornton, and they have 4 children.
